Have you ever thought about what you would do if you lost your computer files?  This seems like a no brainer question, but the truth is that many people do not really stop and think about what to do if your system crashed.  Furthermore, have you ever thought about what you would do if your building was ever damaged or destroyed due to fire or weather? How would you setup shop in the interim until repairs were complete?  It is extremely important for every business to take the time to create a Disaster Recovery Plan to help stop any loss of information and so everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
A disaster recovery plan doesn’t have to be complicated.  If you are a small business, your plan may simply be to schedule daily and weekly backups and to keep them in an off-site, secure location.  Then create a plan on where you would set up your office if your current space were ruined.  Hopefully your information loss would be minimized to the work done that day or since the last backup.
If you have a larger organization, your plan would be more formal and include more steps.  You would most likely need a large space to set up a new office, which may require more planning.  There also are online sources that can automatically backup your information on a scheduled basis and then the information automatically will be stored off-site in a secure location.
No matter the size of the business, making sure you are backing up your information is essential in case of a disaster.  Does your organization have a Disaster Recovery Plan?   If not and you aren’t sure how to get started on a plan, please contact our office for assistance.
