What makes most of us not want to change and try new technologies? Is it the fear of the unknown?
I know from talking to a lot of individuals when new technologies are mentioned, the first response is to try to justify why it would not work for them or that we need to wait until it has been out for six months to a year until the company gets all the bugs worked out.
Most new software and technologies go through extensive beta testing before they are released. That is not to say that everything will be caught during the initial testing.
When purchasing a new automobile do you think, “Oh I should wait until that model has been out a year before I buy it”? Probably not. All automobiles today are run by computers, so if we used the same logic we should wait a year after a new model is out to work out all the kinks.
We should use the same logic with other things in our life as we do when making decisions on technology. By not embracing change in the advancement of technology we are missing out on efficiencies and better processes. We need not be afraid of new technology but embrace it and envision how it can make our business and personal lives better.
My favorite quote is by William Edward Deming: “It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory.”
