Your Accounting Staff

Often too many times, one of a company’s most critical positions is overlooked, understaffed, or filled by unqualified individuals.  I am referring of course to your accounting staff.  We understand the importance of attracting and retaining experienced and knowledgeable employees in our given lines of work.  If you own an electrical contracting business, you undoubtedly look to hire qualified electricians; likewise, if you own a marketing firm or run an attorney’s office, you search for individuals with degrees in those respective fields.  This being the case, why would you not want your on-staff accountant to be adequately experienced, educated and trained?
Consider this: the livelihood of your business depends on your ability to make financial decisions, when and where to cut costs, who you owe, when bills are due, and equally important, who owes you and is behind on their account.  The answers to these questions can all be easily answered with a good set of books that are kept up-to-date and accurately maintained.  To accomplish this, a knowledgeable and qualified accountant or bookkeeper is required.
The next time you sit down to analyze your business I challenge you to remember to consider your accounting personnel.  There are many training opportunities available for accounting staff members who may just need a refresher course in a specific area.  If you are looking to fill a vacant position, don’t necessarily look for the cheapest option but remember that your books are important enough to go after a person with adequate experience, education, or both and to make the position attractive enough to gain the interest of and retain those types of job seekers.
