Be on the lookout for scam artists during filing season. One of the most common schemes that occurs during this time is carried out through phishing. This type of scam is typically in the form of an unsolicited e-mail that appears to be from the IRS or another closely related government agency. Be aware that the IRS will never contact you through e-mail to request personal or financial information. If you receive one of these messages, forward it to phishing@irs.gov.
